David Ashman awarded an OBE
David Ashman, Partnership Chairman at Reeves, has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list for his voluntary service to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help.
The Association was founded in 1885 and is the UK’s oldest Armed Forces charity. It provides financial, practical and emotional assistance to current or past serving men and women from the Army, Navy and RAF, and their families. SSAFA supports around 50,000 people each year with issues including welfare, housing, health and social working, adoption and mentoring. It does this through its network of 8,000 volunteers, all of whom are trained and supported by the charity’s 200 professional staff. In addition, the charity provides health and welfare services within the military and the NHS through a further 500 employees.
David is currently National Honorary Treasurer of SSAFA and has worked with the Kent branch for more than 22 years as branch treasurer. He became a trustee of the charity nine years ago and has been National Honorary Treasurer for the past three years. David has been awarded an OBE for his voluntary service to SSAFA.
The Investiture was held on 14 March 2012 where David was presented with his award by the Queen.
David, who is also one of Reeves’ charity and not-for-profit sector specialists, commented on receiving this award: “I am absolutely delighted to be recognised with this honour and for being a part of such a deserving charity. The work SSAFA does is amazing and really makes a difference to people’s lives. It is a privilege to support the volunteers who do so much to assist serving and ex-service men, women and their families, who are in need.”
