Our very own Olympic Flame
Phil Reynolds, based in the Corporate Services team in our Chatham Maritime office, will be running a leg of the Olympic torch relay this summer.
Lloyds TSB, which is sponsoring the London 2012 games, offered Reeves the opportunity to nominate someone to carry the torch through Kent. They put the nominated names into a ballot and Phil was the lucky winner!
Phil has since made both local and national news with his story. Speaking to Kent Regional Newspapers he said: “We were asked to write 150 words on why we thought we should be chosen. My submission was half-jokey as I said that if I was chosen, I could be the first ginger person to carry the torch, which would make me stand out!”
On winning, Phil commented: “I’m very honoured to have won this opportunity… I’ve always said I want to change the perception of what accountants are like. We’re professionals, but we can have fun like everyone else.”
The 70-day relay will tour the UK from Land’s End to the Olympic stadium in Stratford and Phil will carry the torch for 300 metres of this route.
Clive Stevens, Managing Partner at Reeves, was naturally delighted that Phil was chosen: “He deserves this chance in recognition of all his community and charitable efforts, especially in raising money for Demelza when he was one of the Reeves skydivers in June last year and managed to raise over £1,000.”
